This is a picture of me at the top of Dobratsch mountain range in Austria. The elevation is 7106 ft. and has a stunning view over Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Can you guess one of the ways to increase your energy?
We all experience that lack luster throughout the day that leaves us feeling tired and cranky. Energy zappers are all around us, some obvious, some hidden. When your energy starts flagging throughout the day, don’t be tempted to grab that extra cup of coffee or sugary snack. Try these quick fixes instead to help boost your energy.
Get Moving – This is a great time of the year to be outdoors and get physically active. The winter months can leave us feeling blah, especially when we have been cooped up all winter. A great way to increase your energy is to get the body moving. Physical activity also helps relieve stress, which improves energy levels as well. Try some jumping jacks or a brisk walk, just get the body moving. Research has found that taking a brisk walk for 10 minutes boosts your energy for two hours and if you can take your walk outside that’s even better. Sunlight is a natural energy booster. So go ahead and take a walk, hike or bike in nature or dance to your favourite song. The important thing is to get the body moving.
Hydrate -Drink More Water – Hydration has a major effect on energy levels and brain function. Studies have shown that even mild dehydration can impair many aspects of brain function. Water accounts for up to 70% of our body weight. Every single one of our organs and bodily functions requires water to function properly. Dehydration can cause various body functions to slow down, leaving you feeling sluggish, tired, and irritable. To avoid dehydration don’t wait until you’re thirsty before consuming water or other fluids. Many experts maintain that if you hold off drinking water until you’re thirsty, there’s a good chance that you’re already dehydrated. If you’re in need of a quick energy boost try drinking a glass or two of water. Don’t like water, add some flavour such as slices of lemon, limes and berries or cucumber and mint to your water.
Positive Mantra – A mantra can be conceptualized as a tool of the mind, used to transport it to a particular state of awareness. The English translation of the word mantra means “man” referring to mind and “tra” meaning vehicle. The idea of a positive mantra is to become consciously aware of our thoughts and replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
Write down mantras that you like and start saying them out loud consistently. The act of writing, then speaking them will create a shift in your energy levels. Schedule time for your positive mantra. Your mantra can also be things that you enjoy. It can be a simple daily ritual such cooking your favourite meal, reading or listening to your favourite song. Kick-start those positive emotions by doing something that you enjoy. Your environment and thoughts are powerful, so it is important to make positive thinking a habit and adopt a positive daily mantra.
So go ahead and try these simple energy booster that can make all the difference in your day.
